The gorgeous Wakaya Club is perhaps the most exclusive resort in the Fijian Islands. Located on a breathtakingly beautiful five-square mile Wakaya Island, the resort is surrounded lush tropical forests, waterfalls, beaches and excellent scuba diving. The forest is alive with local exotic flora and fauna, including deer, wild horses and many colorful birds.
The resort was designed for privacy and accepts only eighteen guests at a time. The impeccable and friendly service, romantic surroundings, great choice of activities to choose from, and phenomenal food makes Wakaya a dream come true. There are only nine traditional Fijian bures and a three-bedroom historical island estate. The bures have thatched roofs and airy high-pitched ceilings, bamboo wall coverings and yaka floors. The bedrooms feature king-size four-poster beds, and the separate living rooms comfortable island furniture, full wet bars stocked daily and CD entertainment systems.
All the bures are equipped with air-conditioning and ceiling fans. There is an oversized soaking tub in the bathroom, complete with terry robes and complimentary toiletries. The bures are perfectly private with your own veranda, garden and even a stretch of beach just a couple of steps away!
Vale O, or "House in the Clouds" in Fijian, is a three-bedroom island estate divided into three pavilions. It houses up to three couples and includes personal kitchen and laundry staff, a chef and an on-call driver. The living pavilion has a sunken bar and dining area, a restful lounge area, and a wrap-around veranda with an access to the sunbathing terrace and swimming pool. Here you also find a spa and a waterfall. The estate`s covered walkway leads to the guest pavilion that has two very spacious bedrooms with private bathrooms. The master pavilion features a king-size bed, very large his and hers baths and walk-in closets, and many other elegant appointments. All the buildings of the estate are tastefully decorated with custom-made bamboo and rattan furnishings, art from all around the world and many interesting and thoughtful details. There is also a private tennis and boules court.
The island is privately owned by David Gilmour, who has dedicated a large portion of it as a wildlife sanctuary. There is a village, school, church, a small marina and jetty and an airstrip. The traditional active village is inhabited by some 130 Wakaya Club staff members and their families. Guests are welcome to attend services at the village church on Sundays, visit the village vegetable and fruit market, and shop at the craft shops. Wakaya Island is also the source of the crystal-clear Fiji brand water, drawn from a well deep beneath the volcanic highlands. Wakaya Club employs four chefs and two pastry chefs—all creative, professional and able to astonish you with sumptuous and delectable meals. The gourmet food features Fijian, Indian, Chinese and Continental delicacies. Local game, fresh seafood, native fruits, and produce from Wakaya`s organic gardens are the mainstays of the cuisine. Once a week, enjoy a meke, a traditional Fijian celebration of song and dance, followed by a lovo, a feast of food prepared wrapped in banana leaves and cooked over hot stones buried in the ground. The evening is capped off by a kava ceremony where you share the national drink of Fiji.
Complimentary activities in Wakaya Club include snorkeling, scuba diving, hand-line fishing, tennis, golf at the 9-hole course, and mini golf. The resort can also arrange deep-sea fishing and island excursions. There is a wonderful pool made for relaxation, spa offering restorative massages and beauty treatments, and glass-bottom boat for reef exploration. Enjoy a journey to history as you explore the resort`s art gallery housing the largest private collection of 19th century Fijian art and artifacts.
This romantic getaway and tropical paradise is best enjoyed with a loved one. You can even get married here! Choose the local church, a beach or one of dozens magical spots to recite your wows, surrounded by the incredible beauty of the island and the lovely sounds of the local choir. Afterwards, a champagne reception, dinner and dancing to the island music. Wakaya Club can make your day unbelievable romantic and worry-free. |
