OVERVIEW
Rocktail Beach Camp is shaded by the sanctuary of the lush Maputaland Coastal Forest on the edge of South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal coast. Situated within a pristine coastal forest reserve, this lush area abounds with a variety of animals, birds and plant life. The Camp has a central dining room, bar and lounge with a large wrap around veranda. A raised viewing deck just off the veranda has wide views that extend out to the ocean. The main area at Rocktail Beach Camp has a wine cellar, large pool, and a children’s playroom. With the Maputaland Marine Reserve just offshore and the beach a brisk 20 minute walk from the camp, there are unspoiled beaches, snorkeling, world class diving, and other adventures to be had.
ACCOMMODATION
Set back in the lush dune forest, these cleverly constructed chalets offer rustic luxury that feels like you are sleeping in the open. Rocktail Beach Camp has 17 tented rooms, all with hardwood floors and glass sliding doors, which open onto a wrap around balcony. Eight of the chalets are family suites consisting of two bedrooms and 1 bathroom. All the rooms have en suite bathrooms, an open feel indoor shower and overhead fans. The honeymoon suite has wonderful views over the dune forest and out to the ocean.

DIVING
Diving in a Reserve and World Heritage Site, with the luxury of knowing that you are the only underwater visitors along this stretch of the coastline, makes diving at Rocktail Bay very unique. The reef systems is amongst the most pristine in the world, boasting healthy soft and hard corals. Large numbers of butterfly fish and triggerfish families are seen on every dive, interspersed with clown triggerfish, moorish idols, banner fish, surgeonfish, fire goby and scissortail. Sharks are sighted at intervals, including great hammerheads, tiger sharks, black tip reef sharks and the enormous whale shark. Sightings vary throughout the year with winter being the season for whales, both humpback and southern right. A range of PADI scuba diving courses are offered from beginners to the more advanced.
ACTIVITIES
Rocktail Beach Camp lies in the lush, tropical shade of the Maputaland Coastal Forest with the Maputaland Marine Reserve just offshore. Your days can be spent at the beach snorkeling and relaxing or hiking trails in the forest exploring nature. Birding is outstanding, with a number of special coastal forest species to keep watch for. Trips to Lake Sibaya can be arranged as well as excursions to Black Rock, a 60 foot fossilized sand dune with spectacular views. Guided cultural visits to the traditional herbalist, quad biking, star gazing, Zulu dancing or drives into Temple Elephant Park can also be arranged.
