Brief From The Reef: Indonesia for a marine animal-palooza. sent on
16 May 2013
Hello Recipient,
Looking for the best in diving? Skiers go to Switzerland for the best slopes. Surfers go to Australia for the best waves. . . Divers go to Indonesia for the best reefs. Where you find the ‘world’s best’ activity, you’ll also find top rated accommodations. A die hard scuba diver won’t think twice about a long flight to a choice destination when they know the scene that awaits them. The abundance of marine life in the coral triangle of Indonesia, fabulous (and affordable!) dive resorts and luxurious liveaboards makes it completely worth it.

At the very heart of the sea’s richest biodiversity lies Indonesia. Thriving in these warm waters you will find unique creatures from the ambon scorpionfish to the wobbegong shark. With over 17,000 islands, new dive sites and species are constantly being discovered and the terrain ranges from sandy shallows covered with critters to sheer walls patrolled by rays and reef fish.

At the intersection for the Pacific and Indian Oceans we find Raja Ampat. The environment has all the key ingredients for a biologically diverse marine animal-palooza. Brilliantly hued soft corals and sea fans, sponges, crinoids and hard corals create a habitat for tiny shrimp, giant clams, nudibranchs, and sea stars while turtles, schools of tangs, runners and triggerfish roam the reef. Dense schools of snapper and sweetlips hang effortlessly in brisk currents and epaulette sharks lurk beneath. Mangrove forests fringe the islands, filtering the sunlight onto the corals just below the surface.

Here’s an idea. Check out this Discount with Raja 4 Divers and see for yourself. Or maybe you’d prefer a Photo expedition to Raja Ampat & Triton Bay.

Yes, we’re still talking about Cenderawasih Bay where divers can spend hours swimming with whalesharks. Clients have returned from the first trips to the area and say that it’s living up to the hype.

Check out the summer special with Dewi Nusantara or a photo expedition with Mark Strickland.

Giant lizards above water, giant mantas below. Komodo has the perfect combination of unique critters, luscious corals and pelagic action in an easy to reach location. It’s a photographer’s dream destination! Combine it with Bali for the perfect summer adventure.

WAOW has a special for three summer dates in Komodo and Mark Strickland is leading a photo expedition to nearby Alor.
