Halmahera
- Dive Resorts
Scuba diving in Halmahera is often described as diving in Indonesia before the crowds arrived. Situated in the heart of the Coral Triangle between Sulawesi and Raja Ampat, Halmahera remains one of the country’s last truly remote diving frontiers. Its isolation has helped preserve pristine reefs, exceptional biodiversity, and a sense of exploration that is increasingly rare.
Marine life is equally impressive. Large schools of barracuda, jacks, fusiliers, and snappers fill the blue water, while reef sharks, eagle rays, turtles, and occasional manta rays patrol the reefs. Depending on the season and location, divers may even encounter hammerhead sharks or passing whales and dolphins. Macro photographers are rewarded with pygmy seahorses, ghost pipefish, nudibranchs, harlequin shrimp, mimic octopus, and countless other tiny treasures hiding among the corals and volcanic sand
