Diving:

Heron Island is known for its excellent Great Barrier dive sites and fantastic coral gardens and pinnacles. So good is the diving that Jacques Cousteau listed The Heron Bommie as one of his top ten favorite dive sites.

The waters of the reef around Heron Island are teeming with reef fish, turtles, manta rays, reef sharks and a sheer endless variety of marine invertebrates. There are plenty of dive sites to explore, more than half of which are just 15 minutes from the beach. Approximately 60% of the 1,500 species of fish and 72% of the coral species found on the Great Barrier Reef call the reefs around this beautiful island their home.

Heron Island operates a well-organized and spacious dive experience with 3 fully equipped dive boats with capacities of up to 24 divers. Apart from the massive amounts of space on the dive boats there is also a full canopy cover for sun protection. Diving off the boats is easy with giant stride entries and exit via wide ladders. Distances to the islands' dive sites are relatively short and all dives are conducted as single boat dives so you can do as many or as little dives in a day as you wish.
